For the first time in 15 years BC’s labour code is under review, and nothing is being left off the table.
Minister of Labour Harry Bains is overseeing the review, which he says is long overdue and will focus on the changing economy and workplace environment.
A committee made up of both union and employee representation was formed to travel the province and has revealed a few concerns, including: lack of labour law enforcement, sick leave, child labour laws, and task-based payment methods.
Bains hopes the review will help to create safer workspaces and a feeling of respect and confidence in the Labour Relations Board.
