After extensive discussions with local First Nations communities, the Northwest Fire Centre will be taking a more collaborative approach to fighting wildfires.
In light of the expertise displayed by the First Nations communities that lended assistance to wildfire efforts this season, the BC Wildfire Service is to develop mutually agreed upon plans to work with Indigenous peoples.
The new plan would stress government-to-government efforts to incorporate the knowledge and values of First Nations peoples.
The Service would also like to thank the communities for their invaluable assistance this year, especially on the Babine and Fraser Complexes.
