Low-income families and seniors in BC will find it easier to pay for rent thanks to changes to two provincial government programs.
The rental assistance program will see two changes as the maximum household income to qualify is raised to 40 thousand dollars from the previous 35 thousand, and the average monthly payment jumps by 17 percent to 472 dollars per month.
Seniors can benefit not only from this, but also from changes to the Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters program, which will garner a 42 percent payment increase to 265 dollars per month.
The changes are in line with the province’s 30 point housing plan, and effect approximately 35 thousand households in BC.
