TransCanada has chosen contractors to build its Coastal GasLink pipeline project.
The company has conditionally awarded the contracts to Surerus Murphy Joint Venture, SA Energy Group, Macro Spiecapag Joint Venture and Pacific Atlantic Pipeline Construction Inc. to contruct the natural gas pipeline connecting gas fields in the Northeast to the proposed LNG Canada project in Kitimat.
Coastal GasLink President Rick Gateman calls the selection an important milestone and says the project will create employment opportunities for Indigenous communities, business, and skilled labourers.
It’s expected that the $2.8 billion dollar pipeline will need 2500 workers over the four-year construction period, with special emphasis placed on hiring locally first, giving priority to qualified local and Indigenous businesses in northern B.C.
LNG Canada is expected to make a Final Investment Decision on the Kitimat project sometime this year.
