BC is one of three provinces that could be facing a second outbreak of oyster-caused illnesses in as many years.
The Public Health Agency of Canada says that 172 people are reported to have gotten sick after eating raw oysters in BC, Alberta, and Ontario over the last two months.
This comes following an outbreak that inflicted 400 Canadians last March.
The Bc Shellfish Growers Association claims that the cause is linked to norovirus contamination in the oysters.
The Association is set to take a 9 million dollar hit from last year’s outbreak, and the new one could prove crippling to the industry.
