The Nisga’a Lisims Government has donated $10,000 to the Dr. R.E.M. Lee Hospital Foundation with an eye to help purchase specialized equipment at Mills Memorial Hospital.
The money will help add a new ophthalmic surgical microscope, essential for cataract and other eye procedures.
Cataract surguries have nearly doubled over the past two years and the second microscope is needed to keep up with the pace.
NLG President Eva Clayton says it’s important to contribute to the fundraising in order to maintain the level of service to Nisga’a citizens.
Northern Health will cover the remaining $95,000 for the microscope.
