A coalition of 40 First Nations met with forestry, hydro, and financial management representatives in Prince George this week.
The First Nations Major Projects Coalition says the forum was a chance for open, constructive, fact-based discussions between First Nations and industry.
Coalition Chair, Councillor Charleen Gale of the Fort Nelson First Nation says their ultimate goal is to build relationships that respect and advance First Nations business and community interests.
“Economic development opportunities are welcome so long as they are done right, and meet the needs of First Nation communities. Meaningful involvement and engagement is the key to help close infrastructure and the socio-economic gaps that persist
today,” said Coalition member and Councillor Priscilla Mueller of the Saik’uz Nation in a news release.
The Coalition says leading a new approach for First Nations ownership and economic prosperity is its main focus.
First Nations from Alberta and Ontario participated in the one-day forum as well.
