BC Hydro is moving forward with five First Nations’ clean energy projects, but says it won’t issue any more power purchase agreements until the NDP government completes its review of the process.
The utility says it will negotiate electricity purchase agreements with the five small projects because they are part of Impact Benefit Agreements with BC Hydro and/or mature projects that have significant First Nations involvement.
One of the projects is Tsilhqot’in Solar, a one megawatt solar power project led by Tsilhqot’in National Government near Hanceville.
Also included on the list are also two15 megawatt wind energy projects in the Chetwynd area by the Saulteau and West Moberly First Nations.
Energy Minister Michelle Mungall says moving forward with the projects will create opportunities for First Nations and a cleaner energy future for the province.
