Northern Health is advising Quesnel and area residents that the Emergency Department at GR Baker Memorial Hospital will be unavailable from 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 8, until 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, due to unexpected staffing challenges. During the closure period, anyone experiencing symptoms that may be life-threatening—such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding—should call 9-1-1. Emergency transport partners and local services have been notified, and on-site signage will direct patients to call for ambulance support.
Patients with non-urgent health concerns are encouraged to contact their primary care provider to arrange appointments. Those without a family doctor or nurse practitioner can access the Northern Health Virtual Primary & Community Care Clinic by calling 1-844-645-7811 daily between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Indigenous residents and their family members may also use the First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day program at 1-855-344-3800, available seven days a week. In addition, Northern BC residents can book appointments with local pharmacists for 21 minor ailments and prescription contraceptives through the provincial booking portal.
Anyone unsure whether their symptoms require emergency care, or who needs general health advice, can contact HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 for 24-hour access to nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists.
