Fort St. James residents are being advised that emergency services at Nats’oojeh Hospital will be unavailable from four o’clock this afternoon until eight o’clock tomorrow morning due to staffing challenges. Life-threatening emergencies, such as chest pain, severe bleeding, or difficulty breathing, should be addressed immediately by calling 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest hospital equipped to provide urgent care.
For non-urgent medical concerns, patients who do not have a primary care provider can access virtual health services through the Northern Health Virtual Primary and Community Care Clinic by calling 1-844-645-7811, available daily from ten in the morning until ten at night. Indigenous residents can also make virtual appointments through the First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day program at 1-855-344-3800, available seven days a week. Additionally, Northern BC residents can book appointments with pharmacists for minor ailments and prescription contraceptives.
Those who are unsure whether their condition requires emergency attention or need general health advice can call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 or visit HealthLinkBC.ca for assistance from nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists at any time. Signage will be placed at Nats’oojeh Hospital to guide patients during this temporary service interruption. Residents are thanked for their understanding and support of local health care staff during this time.
