Finance Minister Selina Robinson has released her first provincial budget. While it includes billions of dollars in spending on infrastructure and programs, it also forecasts a deficit of $9.7-billion.
$8.7-billion is slated for infrastructure spending over three years, a move that Robsinson says will create 85,000 jobs. Healthcare and mental health will get about $3.1-billion in extra spending, and $1.6-billion is set for poverty reduction.
Robinson says balancing the budget may take seven to nine years.
