The union representing 2000 northern B.C. mill workers says a tentative deal reached with employers will provide a wage boost and better benefits.
Steelworkers Local 1-2017 says the five-year contract reached with CONIFER (Council on Northern Interior Forest Employment Relations) last week will bring pay increases of two percent in each of the first four years and a 2.5 percent bump in the last year.
The union says the agreement also includes a $500 lump sum payment on ratification, improvements to health and welfare, and an increase to group life insurance.
The tentative agreement took months to hammer out and saw rotating job action by Steelworkers members at northern mills.
The union is recommending its members ratify the deal.
