The Town of Smithers has reached a labour agreement with its unionized employees.
The new five-year collective agreeent with CUPE Local 1570 includes wage increases of two percent a year in each of the first four years and 1.5 percent in the fifth year.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach says the pact provides certainty for CUPE workers, the town, and the community as a whole.
Local 1570 President Darren Fuerst says the agreement provides livable wages and benefits to his members and is the product of a fair and respectful bargaining session.
The deal is effective January 1st, 2018.
