The 28 year-old former mayor of Burns Lake is facing two dozen sex-related criminal charges.
Luke Strimbold was arrested February 3rd, although news of the charges only surfaced Friday.
Strimbold is charged with eight counts of sexual assault, seven counts of sexual interference, five counts of invitation to sexual touching, and four counts of sexual exploitation.
As part of his conditional release, Strimbold must abide by 11 conditions, including that he have no contact with anyone under 18 and that he stay away from public parks or places where young people could be present.
Burns Lake RCMP say the charges against Strimbold relate to allegations from 2016, but police are investigating the possibility that there may be more victims or witnesses.
Strimbold was first elected mayor of Burns Lake in 2011 and then re-elected in 2014 before resigning in 2016.
He was also active in the BC Liberal Party as membership chair.
The BC Liberals say they became aware of the charges via social media and Strimbold has now resigned as membership chair and as a member of the party.
Strimbold is scheduled to appear in court April 6 in Burns Lake.
